All projects and experiences listed below were roles and positions Fabian had at the time with past companies he represented.
Amazon HQ Rufus 1.0 Urban Campus
This campus was the first section established as Amazon HQ. Building on the existing hardscapes of the area, as the Community Landscape Manager for Amazon Horticulture, we used regenerative design tactics to enhance the natural experience within the campus. This included the repurposing of under-utilized space. One example was renovating rooftop spaces and creating an agriculture garden for employees to experience well-being and community. The success of this garden led to the creation of an Amazon urban agriculture program which also added to the expansion of the gardens. Worked with the city of Seattle landscape architects and arborists on pedestrian right-away safety and community greening of the city. The creation of proper dog relief areas that benefited the health of the plantings and dog owner accessibility.
Seattle Olympic Sculpture Park (SAM)
As the Landscape Account Manager for Teufel Landscape, we collaborated and worked with the onsite manager to maintain an ecological habitat while creating an urban outdoor art and nature museum, reinventing the experience at the park on a yearly basis. This was accomplished by providing guidance on proper plantings that contributed to the biophilic aspects of public art.
Amazon NYC Projects
Reviewer representing the Amazon Horticulture team on rooftop horticulture elements designed for a natural experience in the city. We were tasked with ensuring that suitable plantings and ecosystems were in place, complementing the historic building. These projects also required our oversite of developing proper dog park deck areas.
Nintendo of America HQ- Redmond
Nintendo's HQ was redeveloped in 2010 with Brumbaugh Landscape Architects creating a Pacific Northwest landscape. As the Landscape Account Manager for Teufel Landscape, our team continued supporting the use of native species and climate-adaptable plants with each site expansion. This includes a 75,000 SF naturally-vegetated living green roof and a planting atrium. I managed and trained the landscape team to sustainably maintain the site while creating opportunities to enhance the experience within the pedestrian areas. This included the transition from the landscape to the natural green belt areas within the property. ZGF was the architect.
Amazon Bellevue Projects
Stakeholder partner and reviewer as the Amazon representative for horticulture elements for Amazonians and the public to enjoy. Supporting the landscape architect firm GGN's vision of a native ecological landscape at the Bellevue 600 site. This unique landscape pays homage to the original environmental ecologies of Mercer Slough and Meydenbauer Bay before the area's development while providing new habitats for pollinators and other important wildlife in the area.
Brooks HQ - Seattle
This building (Stone 34) is the first project to use the City of Seattle’s Living Building Pilot Program, requiring 75% reductions in energy, domestic water consumption, and 50% on-site stormwater reuse. The project coincides with the tenant’s philosophy of promoting an active outdoor lifestyle with a heightened sense of the environment. The Landscape architects Swift Company designed this native planting with various food-producing plants. As the Landscape Maintenance Manager for Botanical Designs, our team managed the post-maintenance and redesigned certain areas as the landscape matured with many changing environmental impacts.
Amazon Vancouver BC Project
Participated in design reviews of horticulture elements as the Amazon Horticulture representative of the newly retrofitted building, The Post, in downtown Vancouver and continued to work with the developer team until design completion.
Amazon Spheres and the HQ Urban Arboretum Campus
When planning for the landscape surrounding the Spheres and neighboring blocks, landscape architecture firm Site Workshop saw a unique opportunity to create a botanical experience that would reflect the uniqueness and diversity of the plants inside the Spheres. with input from world-renowned horticulturist and plant explorer Daniel J. Hinkley, plants were selected from different geographic regions suited to the Pacific Northwest climate. The completion of the Rufus 2.0 Regrade site led by architect firm NBBJ is a natural wonder in an urban environment, creating an urban arboretum for the public to enjoy anytime. This helps green the community and promote biophilia and well-being in the area. The continued natural evolution of the landscape brings a surprise and delight feeling that I have had the pleasure of being part of from the start as the Community Landscape Manager and horticulturist at Amazon.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Campus
This Pacific Northwest landscape was designed by Landscape Architect GGN. This native landscape is genuinely an ecological habitat for pollinators and wildlife from the area. Employees and visitors have the opportunity to walk along different paths and sections of the landscape to experience biophilia. As the Landscape Account Manager for Teufel Landscape, our team was tasked with overseeing sections of the installation of the plantings and post-maintenance of the entire landscape. Provided irrigation management through the gray water system and guidelines for proper sustainable caretaking.
Amazon HQ2 Urban Campus - Met Park
As a stakeholder partner and reviewer, I was one of the Amazon representatives for horticulture elements that worked alongside the landscape architect company James Corner Field Operations (JCFO) vision of creating a public-facing biophilic urban park design in the city. This included the public art display in which artists would create art installations within the landscape as I was selected as a stakeholder due to my design and art background. The landscape design also provides pockets of community experiences, including a children's playground, dog park, biophilic amphitheater, walking forest paths, and a community gathering table.
Google Redmond Campus-
Nestled in the Kirkland neighborhood, this campus allowed Google employees to have greenspace with natural paths around them while having views of Lake Washington from the rooftop. As the Landscape Account Manager for Teufel Landscape, I managed and guided all the exterior landscape and directed the teams on the natural aesthetics of the site while using sustainable practices for proper protective habitats.
Amazon HQ2 PenPlace/Helix - Helix Hill Climb Design and PenPlace
The building design will feature two walkable paths of landscaped terrain that will spiral up the outside of the building. The landscape architect SCAPE was meticulous with the plant and tree selection of the project, making sure we paid attention to all ecosystems that can be provided along these unique pathways.
PenPlace will be an interweaving 2.5-acre public park with exploratory moments; the project will offer varied nature-infused experiences that invite discovery, collaboration, and reflection. A forest grove provides shaded areas for relaxation during the hot summer months. As quoted by the architect firm NBBJ is leading the project. As part of the Amazon horticulture team, I was dedicated to providing input on the exterior planting of the design and experience.
